SWIG presents: South African Wine FestivalMap and Directions

With so many wine tastings, I’m very picky as to which ones I recommend and attend personally.  And this one is too good to miss!!!

For only £12.50, you’ll be able to taste around 70 wines. And learn a little too!

MY THOUGHTS ON SOUTH AFRICAN WINES:

South African wines have an enjoyable distinct flavour profile, and they seem to be have accuired the best of both Old World and New World wines.  Fruit driven, but balanced with earthy flavours.  For me, I’m a bit bored of the main stream grapes and regions and get really excited when ever I taste a wine from SA. Okay – enough of the wine geek talk!!!!

ABOUT YOUR HOST:

This online wine shop planted its roots in posh Belsize Park on the outskirts of Hampstead Heath.  I love it’s branding, it’s ‘tone of voice’ and their ethos.  And aparently, I’m not the only one…

Shortlisted for Direct Merchant of the Year 2012, International Wine Challenge

“Swig’s notes are exceptional. Such a good read, a model of entertainment and information” – Jancis Robinson

“I reckon you guys are about the best wine merchant in the market at present for those who are happy to live on the newer shores of wine-making. There a few niche offers (Sampler are quite cute), and on the old turf Berry’s (Berry Brothers and Rudd) still rule, but for a “progressive” merchant I think you have it. Breadth of choice, off piste makers, depth of advice among your colleagues, acute sense of price points, etc etc” Patrick H. April 2013

So, even if you can’t come along to the event, check em out!!!!

WHAT STYLE OF EVENT IS IT:

If you’ve never been to a wine festival,  there will be lots of tables, each with around different 10 wines to try. In total probably around 70 wines.  You walk around, sampling the different wines and talking to the producers. It’s very informal and not snobby at all – it’s amazing!  I try to focus on one grape at a time, meaning that I will try a Sauvingon Blanc from each table. Or I try all the whites first, then come back and try the reds.

TIMES:

The tasting starts at 7, but its not a guided tasting, so you can arrive anytime.  I’ll meet people at the entrance at 7, 8 and 9 pm.  Hopefully everyone will meet at 9, for a debreif on the wines you liked and maybe a meal – after all that’s why we come in a group!

HOW TO BUY YOUR TICKET:

I’ve arranged a special discount for all meetup members: This is a great value event and you’ll love it – there are so many top quality wines that you will most likely drink over £50 worth if you were at a restaurant.
